Virus kills 10,000 chickens in Nagarkurnool district

Hyderabad: Poultry farmers in Nagarkurnool district are in panic after a suspected poultry virus killed nearly 10,000 chickens across the district in a single day.

The sudden deaths triggered concern among small and marginal farmers who invested heavily in poultry farming.

Officials reported that around 5,000 chickens died at a poultry farm in Chinnapuravupalli village of Peddakothapalli mandal in the Kollapur Assembly constituency.

Poultry virus suspected behind mass chicken deaths

Another 1,500 chickens died in Ramreddypalli Thanda of Nagarkurnool mandal.

Authorities also estimated that nearly 4,000 chickens died in other parts of the district.

Farmers expressed concern as the deaths occurred suddenly and spread across several poultry farms.

Officials have started efforts to identify the virus responsible for the deaths.

A team of forensic experts will visit Nagarkurnool on Monday to investigate the incident.

The team will collect samples from the dead chickens and conduct detailed laboratory tests.

Authorities said they will confirm the exact cause of the deaths only after receiving the expert report.
