Hyderabad: Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Congress high command assigned key responsibilities to Telangana minister Uttam Kumar Reddy by appointing him as an AICC observer for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The All India Congress Committee decided as part of early election preparations. Notably, Assembly elections are scheduled later this year in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Therefore, the party moved in advance to strengthen organisational oversight in the two states.
At the same time, the Congress leadership decided to appoint senior observers for other poll-bound states. Assembly elections are also due in Assam, Kerala and West Bengal. Consequently, the AICC deployed experienced leaders to supervise election-related activities.
Uttam Kumar Reddy among AICC observers for key states
According to a statement issued by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, the party appointed Bhupesh Baghel, D K Shivakumar and Bandhu Tirkey as observers for Assam.
Similarly, for Kerala, the AICC appointed Sachin Pilot, K J George, Imran and Kanhaiya Kumar.
Meanwhile, for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the Congress named Mukulk Wasnik, Uttam Kumar Reddy and Khazi Mohammed Nizamuddin as AICC observers.
In addition, the party appointed Sudip Roy Barman, Shakeel Ahmed Khan and Prakash Joshi as observers for West Bengal.
Party leaders said the observers would coordinate with state units. They will review organisational preparedness. Moreover, they will oversee campaign planning during the election period.
