Hyderabad: The UMEED portal will operate under a three-month extension after Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the government will not impose penalties on mutawallis who missed today’s deadline. He said lakhs of Waqf properties still remain unregistered.
Rijiju said MPs and community leaders sought extra time because mutawallis faced technical and documentation issues. He accepted their request and granted temporary relief. He urged mutawallis to use this window or approach the Waqf Tribunal for more time.
UMEED portal extension linked to tribunal authority
Rijiju said the Supreme Court ruled out any extension beyond the six-month period set under the amended Waqf Act. He explained that only the Waqf Tribunal can grant up to six additional months if genuine registration issues arise. He said mutawallis who still struggle with entries should move the tribunal without delay.
The minister said the UMEED portal has recorded 1.51 lakh Waqf properties so far. Several lakh properties remain pending. He said the Centre aims to support the registration effort but must follow the legal limits set by Parliament.
