Hyderabad: Two Indian students pursuing higher education in the US died in a road accident on Saturday, May 10, in Pennsylvania. The crash, which occurred in Lancaster County, took some time to come to light due to delayed reporting.
Identified as 23-year-old Saurav Prabhakar and 20-year-old Manav Patel, the victims were studying at Cleveland State University in Ohio. According to local police reports, the car they were travelling in lost control and struck a tree before getting wedged between the tree and a bridge railing.
Saurav was behind the wheel at the time. Along with Manav, a third passenger was also in the vehicle. Both Saurav and Manav died on the spot, while the other individual sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the crash. The Indian Consulate General in New York expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the victims’ families. Officials also confirmed that steps are underway to repatriate the bodies to India and assured full support to the bereaved families.
The news has caused ripples back home. Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh expressed shock over the fatal mishap, particularly disturbed that four lives were lost in a single accident. He instructed district officials to ensure the injured receive top medical care and assured government support to all affected families. Later, he personally conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
