Tummala reviews weather advisory project for farmers

Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Thursday reviewed a weather advisory project aimed at helping farmers make timely decisions based on climate updates.

Representatives from the Development Innovation Lab met the Minister at the Secretariat and presented details of their initiatives. They explained that the weather advisory project delivers advance information on weather conditions and rainfall.

The organisation is currently running pilot programmes in Telangana and Odisha. It uses SMS and WhatsApp to share updates with farmers. As a result, farmers can plan sowing, harvesting, and market activities more effectively.

Weather advisory project aims to reduce crop losses

The representatives said the weather advisory helps farmers respond to extreme weather events. These include unseasonal rains, storms, and strong winds. Therefore, farmers can reduce crop losses through timely action.

They also informed the Minister that the system supports better planning across agricultural operations. It improves decision-making by providing early alerts.

The team requested government support to expand the advisory project to a wider scale. In response, Tummala Nageswara Rao directed the Agriculture Director to examine the proposal in detail.

He asked officials to study the feasibility and take appropriate action based on the findings.
