Transport department begins e-enforcement road safety drive

Hyderabad: The Transport Department began an e-enforcement road safety drive and created a clear plan for December to March. It directed field teams to tighten inspections and rely on technology for routine monitoring. Moreover, the department asked officials to target fast-moving corridors and areas with repeated violations. It also pushed for quicker responses to road safety risks across the state.

The department informed the government that strong digital oversight will guide the drive. Therefore, it planned the installation of electronic enforcement devices at 100 locations. These devices will record violations on blackspots, busy junctions and high-speed routes. Furthermore, they will capture offences automatically without manual involvement. The department submitted a detailed deployment plan to the state government.

Officials also moved ahead with plans to establish automated vehicle testing centres. They told the government that digital testing will reduce errors and improve safety. The department aims to activate 15 automated centres by the end of March. In addition, it reviewed the share of electric vehicles in the state. EVs currently form 1.34 percent of registered vehicles, with 2,40,753 units listed. The department now targets a 2 percent share by March.

Finally, the Transport Department set a revenue goal of ₹8,535 crore for the period. It seeks to achieve this through stronger enforcement and wider compliance across transport services. It also plans to use continuous monitoring to reach the revenue target and improve overall road discipline.
