Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a thunderstorm alert for several districts in Telangana, warning of lightning and gusty winds expected to sweep through parts of the state over the next day.
The warning, effective from Thursday afternoon, covers a window from 1:30 PM on 23 May to 8:30 AM on 24 May. Areas likely to be affected include Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Narayanpet, Siddipet, Suryapet, Wanaparthy, and Warangal. Wind speeds could reach between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour.
Residents in these districts have been urged to stay alert and follow safety instructions issued by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). Emergency teams have been placed on standby as local administrations prepare for any disruptions the weather may cause.
The alert comes amid a pattern of increasingly erratic weather across Telangana, prompting renewed attention to disaster readiness and the region’s ability to cope with climate shifts.
