Three arrested for extortion posing as journalists in Jagtial

Hyderabad: Three men were arrested by Metpally police in Jagtial district for extortion, posing as journalists.

Sub-Inspector Kiran Kumar said the accused—Tari Rajasekhar from Medipalli, Boda Diwakar from Ibrahimpatnam, and Nannapu Raviraju from Metpally—were taken into custody after they threatened a sand lorry operator on National Highway 63.

According to police, Tirumalashetti Jaibabu of Perkit in Nizamabad district was transporting sand with his father, Nageshwar Rao, on the night of October 21. When their lorry approached the Metpally police station area, the three accused stopped them using two bikes.

They demanded ₹10,000, threatening to publish false news about the transport if the money was not paid. Jaibabu handed over ₹5,000 but refused to pay the remaining amount. When patrolling police neared the spot, the accused fled.
