Jukkal MLA Thota Laxmikanta Rao reviews Nizamsagar dam, calls for intensified flood relief

Hyderabad: Jukkal MLA Thota Laxmikanta Rao on Thursday inspected the Nizamsagar dam in Kamareddy district after authorities lifted floodgates due to surging inflows caused by continuous rains in upstream areas.

He said he had closely tracked the rising water levels and quickly alerted residents in vulnerable villages. “We moved people from low-lying areas to safer zones in advance and ensured they received essential supplies,” he stated.

The MLA promised that the state government would address all crop losses reported by farmers. “I’ve informed officials. Please don’t panic—relief will reach you,” he told affected families.

To prevent mishaps, he directed teams to deploy police and trained swimmers at streams, tanks, and culverts. Meanwhile, floodwater had damaged roads in several locations. Emergency crews used JCBs to restore access and continue rescue operations without delays.

Furthermore, Rao called on his party cadre to actively join relief efforts. “Every worker must step in. Help stranded families, distribute essentials, and assist officials,” he urged.

A dedicated helpline now handles distress calls and tracks on-ground relief. Rao said government staff and local leaders were working round the clock to protect lives and bring normalcy back to flood-hit areas.
