Hyderabad: To handle Sankranthi travel rush, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will run 6,431 special buses between January 9 and 19 across the state and to nearby regions.
Special buses, revised fares, and free travel for women
Officials expect peak outbound travel on January 9, 10, 12 and 13. Return traffic will likely surge on January 18 and 19. TGSRTC will adjust bus deployment daily based on passenger volume.
Special buses will operate from major city points MGBS, JBS, Uppal Cross Roads, Aramghar, LB Nagar, KPHB, Bowenpally, and Gachibowli. To support travelers, GHMC will provide pandals, seating, water, toilets, and public address systems at these hubs.
If return traffic drops, TGSRTC will immediately divert empty buses to crowded routes to maintain service levels.
As per GO No. 16 (2003), TGSRTC can raise fares up to 1.5 times on special services during festivals. The revised fares apply only to special buses on peak days, both within Telangana and to other states. Regular services will continue at standard fares.
Under the Mahalaxmi scheme, women will still get free travel during the festival. The scheme covers Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary, and Metro Express buses.
TGSRTC urged passengers to book early through www.tgsrtcbus.in. For help, they may call 040-69440000 or 040-23450033.
