Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will deploy 4,000 buses to facilitate pilgrim travel during Medaram Jathara 2026. Officials announced this on Friday.
Special operations will run from January 25 to February 1, with the Jathara scheduled from January 28 to 31. Buses pooled from across Telangana and Hyderabad will serve an estimated 20 lakh passengers. This is boosted by the Mahalakshmi free travel scheme for women.
Massive transport, security and logistics setup in place
TGSRTC has established a temporary bus station over 50 acres at Medaram. The facility includes 50 queue lines designed to handle up to 20,000 passengers simultaneously. Parking space for 1,000 buses has also been arranged. In addition, drinking water stations, medical camps, toilets, and a command control centre equipped with 76 CCTV cameras have been set up.
To manage the operations, over 10,400 personnel including drivers, conductors, officers, and security staff—will work in shifts around the clock. The corporation has ensured support services such as route patrolling, vehicle breakdown assistance, and fuel supply at key locations.
Officials also warned that regular RTC services in Hyderabad and other districts may be reduced during the Jathara period. This is due to the diversion of buses toward Medaram.
