TGRTC to resume student bus passes in Hyderabad from June 12

Hyderabad: With schools and colleges reopening on June 12, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) is rolling out student bus passes across Greater Hyderabad offering a timely breather for thousands of young commuters gearing up for the new academic term.

TGRTC officials confirmed that new passes will be issued from 40 designated RTC counters spread across the city. Students can also apply online through the official portal www.tgsrtc.telangana.gov.in/bus-pass-services. Once the application is submitted, students must print the form and present it at their nearest pass counter to collect the pass.

Though this annual facility sees lakhs of applications each year, officials noted a significant dip in demand recently. With the state government now offering free bus travel to women, a large number of female students no longer require a student pass, leading to a sharp drop in total registrations.

Nonetheless, TGRTC has made all necessary arrangements to ensure smooth processing for those who still need bus passes, especially male students and others not covered by the state’s free travel scheme. Schools, junior colleges, and degree institutions are all set to reopen from June 12, and transport authorities are bracing for a surge in applications in the run-up to the academic calendar.
