Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has sought a detailed report from the Director General of Police in connection with the murder of Advocate Swapna Kumari, citing allegations of police negligence.
The Commission, headed by Dr Justice Shameem Akther, took cognisance of a complaint filed by 163 advocates. The complaint, registered as SR No. 515/2026, alleged gross negligence by Moinabad police in failing to prevent the murder of Advocate Swapna Kumari on February 4, 2026, at Chevella.
According to the complainants, Advocate Swapna Kumari had earlier filed complaints naming her brother in an ongoing land dispute. They stated that she had warned police about threats to her life. However, the police allegedly failed to take timely preventive measures.

The Commission observed that the allegations pointed to a serious dereliction of duty. Therefore, it directed the DGP, Telangana, to submit a comprehensive report. It also listed the matter relating to Advocate Swapna Kumari for further consideration on March 6, 2026.
Meanwhile, the complainants sought an independent inquiry into the incident. They demanded action against the officials concerned. In addition, they requested protection for eyewitnesses and interim compensation for the victim’s mother.
Furthermore, they urged authorities to file the charge sheet without delay to ensure speedy justice.
