TG Safe seizes 55 tonnes of food products in Sahil Foods inspections

Hyderabad: TG Safe (Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs) officials seized around 55 tonnes of food products worth an estimated Rs. 33.94 lakh during TG Safe inspections at five snack manufacturing units run by Sahil Foods in Premavathi Pet, near Kat edan. Officials found multiple food safety violations and suspended the FSSAI licences and registrations of four units. They also ordered the four units to stop business operations.

The inspections uncovered food products stored without proper labels. Officials suspected quality issues and collected 11 samples for laboratory testing. The seized stock weighed approximately 55 tonnes, with its value estimated at Rs. 33.94 lakh.

Inspectors also found accumulated food waste inside the manufacturing units. They noted poor maintenance of machinery and inadequate ventilation. Some workers were reportedly chewing gutka and pan masala inside the facilities.

TG Safe inspections reveal unhygienic storage practices

Officials found food products stored directly on the floor. They also discovered synthetic food colours kept in unclean buckets. In addition, the units had failed to maintain proper records related to the manufacture and sale of products.

The inspections also revealed that the FSSAI licences did not include the appropriate food categories. Authorities suspended the licences and registrations of four units over violations of the prescribed requirements and directed them to halt operations.

Following the inspections, officials advised consumers to check food products carefully before purchasing them. They urged buyers to examine packaging labels and the cleanliness of products.

Consumers should verify the FSSAI licence or registration number, product name, manufacturer details, batch information, date markings and storage instructions. Officials also advised people to avoid damaged or opened packages and products with missing or unclear labels.

The 11 food samples collected during the inspections were sent to a laboratory for testing. The seized products were valued at approximately Rs. 33.94 lakh.
