Telangana urges revival of Adilabad CCI cement plant

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has renewed its demand for the revival of the Adilabad CCI cement plant, with Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu urging the union government to act without delay. The appeal comes amid growing calls for industrial development in the state’s backward regions.

At a high-level meeting held at the Secretariat, Sridhar Babu recalled that both he and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had repeatedly requested Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy to take up the plant’s revival.

Adilabad CCI cement plant revival could create 3,000 jobs

During the meeting, Cement Corporation of India (CCI) CMD Sanjay Banga informed that nearly ₹2,000 crore would be required to modernise the defunct facility with advanced machinery. Once restored, the plant could generate employment for around 3,000 people, significantly boosting the local economy.

The Minister emphasised that the plant’s revival is especially critical for Adilabad district, which remains an industrially underdeveloped region. He insisted that such a key public sector unit must remain under central control and firmly opposed any disinvestment or privatisation plans.

Sridhar Babu also said the CCI had sought formal proposals from the State, which would be submitted shortly. He added that over 2,000 acres of limestone-rich land in the region would ensure long-term viability for the cement unit.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary A. Ramakrishna Rao, Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar, Mines and Geology Principal Secretary N. Sridhar, Mines Director Velluru Kranti, TGIIC MD Shashank Tandur, CCI GM Sharad Kumar, CCI Regional Manager Umesh Kumar Singh, and former union minister Venugopalachari.
