Hyderabad: The number of Telangana students arriving at the state’s Bhavan in Delhi has climbed to 126, with most of them travelling from tense regions like Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. All of them are either heading back or already en route to their hometowns.
By Saturday night, 35 had turned up. That more than tripled by Sunday. At least 50 were from NIT Srinagar alone. Out of the total 126, 57 boarded trains back home, while 69 remained at the Bhavan as of Sunday evening.
Temporary accommodation and food have been arranged by the Telangana Bhavan authorities. Transport to railway stations and airports is being taken care of too. Staff have even helped secure confirmed train tickets for those heading out.
Resident Commissioner Gaurav Uppal visited the Bhavan to inspect arrangements, ensuring all services were running smoothly.
Meanwhile, across the street at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan, the crowd swelled too. From 91 students staying overnight on Saturday, the number shot up to 350 by Sunday. These were mostly students or residents from Andhra living in border states who decided to move toward safer ground.
Anyone needing help was told to contact AP Bhavan through landline 011-23387089, or via mobile on 98719 99430 and 98719 99053. For more hands-on assistance, Deputy Commissioner MVS Rama Rao and liaison officer V. Suresh Babu can be reached at 98719 90081 and 98183 95787 respectively.
The backdrop? Escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, especially around the border states, have pushed many Telangana residents – including a good number of students – towards Delhi for safety. As of now, about 180 Telangana natives have reached the Bhavan.
Commissioner Gaurav Uppal confirmed that meals, shelter, and rides were being provided to all of them. At least 26 have already been assisted and sent off to their villages. Every single person walking into the Bhavan, he added, would be given whatever help they need.
Efforts are continuing tirelessly to help and assist people from #Telangana who are stranded in different parts of North India.
