Hyderabad: Telangana celebrated Senior Citizens Day 2025 at the Babu Jagjivan Ram Auditorium in Banjara Hills on Wednesday. Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar attended the event as the chief guest and said the government continued to strengthen support for elderly citizens.
Telangana Senior Citizens Day highlights new support systems and wider outreach
The minister said Telangana expanded several welfare schemes for seniors. He noted that pensions continued without delay, which offered essential support. Moreover, the state has already established old-age homes in 13 districts, and work in the remaining districts has moved forward steadily.
He explained that the government created maintenance tribunals and appellate tribunals in every district under the Senior Citizens Act, 2007. These bodies now resolve disputes quickly and ensure better protection for elderly citizens.

District administrations also organised week-long programmes from November 12 to November 19. During these activities, collectors, SPs, district officials and senior citizens’ associations took part. Events included games, awareness sessions and rallies, and they encouraged active participation from seniors.
Furthermore, the minister said the government planned 37 daycare centres across 33 districts. These centres will offer daily support, community space and basic care. He added that the facilities will improve access to essential services and help seniors stay socially connected.
Officials also released a poster explaining key rules of the Senior Citizens Act. Chairman Muthyala Veerayya, IAS officer Anita Ramachandran and Director B. Sailaja attended the programme with several officials. Sailaja said nearly 1,500 senior citizens joined the state-level celebrations.
