Telangana rescues over 1,000 people from floods, relief operations in full swing

Hyderabad: The Telangana government said on Thursday that rescue teams saved over 1,000 people from flood-hit areas after two days of heavy rain. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reported that 1,071 people were evacuated to safety, and teams also distributed food to more than 1,000 stranded residents.

The CMO said operations focused on Kamareddy, Medak, and Khammam, the worst-hit districts. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police worked round the clock. Meanwhile, officials continued to track rising waters in other vulnerable areas.

Drones used to deliver food in flood-hit areas

Rescue teams deployed drones in some places to deliver food where boats or road access was impossible. This was particularly crucial in villages cut off by overflowing streams and rivulets.

In Kamareddy and Medak, boats ferried families from inundated villages. In Khammam, however, floods intensified, and police with disaster personnel worked overnight to move residents from houses near tanks and canals.

The CMO said the government’s immediate priority is to provide food, water, and medical care. In addition, district administrations remain on high alert, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast more heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is personally monitoring the situation. Therefore, he directed officials to act without delay and ensure that relief measures reach affected families quickly.
