Hyderabad: The Eagle unit has arrested two sons of Telangana police officers for their alleged role in a drug trafficking ring operating through city pubs and hotels.
Among those detained is Rahul Teja, son of a serving officer in the SIB (as Officer on Special Duty), who is already named as the third accused in a 2024 Nizamabad drug case. Despite being implicated, Rahul had neither been arrested nor secured bail in the earlier case, raising questions over selective enforcement. Officials probing his role were reportedly told that action had been withheld due to his father’s position.
The arrests stemmed from the interrogation of Surya Annamneni, operator of Malnad Kitchen in Kompally, who was caught along with six others for smuggling cocaine from Delhi inside shoes. Surya’s network, investigators say, stretched across the city, with alleged ties to pub owners, hotel operators, and regular drug users.
Rahul Teja, meanwhile, is believed to have sourced drugs from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Delhi, funnelling them into the city’s nightlife scene. His name came up again during Surya’s custodial interrogation, which pushed authorities to revisit earlier charges against him.
Also arrested was Mohan, son of a senior officer currently serving as DCP at the Cyberabad CAR Headquarters. Mohan, said to be closely associated with Surya, was reportedly involved in hotel and pub operations tied to the racket.
The Eagle unit continues to investigate further suspects linked to Malnad Kitchen and has expanded its probe into others in the hospitality sector who may be complicit.
