Telangana Medical Council urges doctors to display QR codes for transparency

Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has called on registered doctors across the state to voluntarily display their unique QR codes already issued during registration at clinics and on prescriptions to improve transparency and curb medical malpractice.

Each QR code links to verified background details of a registered practitioner and is embedded in the TGMC registration certificate. The council has been issuing such QR-enabled certificates for several months.

TGMC vice-chairman Dr G. Srinivas said, “QR codes are already part of every doctor’s registration certificate. We encourage all practitioners to visibly display these on clinic signage and prescriptions.”

The initiative aims to make medical verification easier for patients and to crack down on quackery. TGMC’s official website features a “doctor search” option that allows the public to verify credentials using the practitioner’s registration number.

“The online platform allows anyone to search doctor details by entering a registration number,” added Dr Srinivas.

The council’s move to embed QR codes and host searchable data online forms part of its broader strategy to enforce transparency and identify unauthorized medical practice in the state.
