Over 33 crore women used Telangana’s Mahalaxmi free bus travel scheme in Ranga Reddy

Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s Mahalaxmi free bus travel scheme for women has received overwhelming public response, with over 33 crore women using TSRTC services in the Ranga Reddy district alone since its launch.

According to officials, the scheme has saved women passengers in the district nearly ₹1,429 crore in travel expenses. Launched within 48 hours of the new government taking office, the initiative is part of the Congress party’s six-guarantee promises.

The scheme allows free travel for women, girls, and transgender individuals in TSRTC-operated express, ordinary, Pallevelugu, and city metro buses, upon verification through Aadhaar cards.

Beneficiaries include homemakers, students, government and private employees, daily wage workers, and women employed in the IT corridor. TSRTC officials noted that the initiative has significantly improved mobility for women across all sections of society.
