Telangana likely to file petition in Supreme Court on 42% BC reservation stay

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is expected to approach the Supreme Court on Monday to challenge the High Court’s stay on 42% BC reservation in local body elections. The stay halted the implementation of G.O. No. 9, which aimed to increase reservations for Backward Classes.

The government plans to enforce 42% reservation for BCs in local self-governance. After the High Court order, officials said they would seek swift legal relief by moving the apex court.

BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, along with Kadiyam Srihari and Mahesh Kumar Goud, is likely to visit Delhi to coordinate with legal teams and follow up on the case.

Delay in 42% BC reservation triggers concern among candidates

Even though the election notification has been issued, the stay order has raised doubts about how reservations will be applied. With no timeline for a final decision, confusion continues among potential candidates.

The state’s move to file the petition comes amid rising concern in the BC community. Many fear that prolonged delays or changes in policy could affect their chances and weaken their representation in local bodies.
