Telangana CID Arrests Two in Chennai for Kidney Racket Case

Hyderabad: In a key development in the investigation of a sprawling interstate kidney racket, Telangana’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two more suspects from Chennai, deepening the trail of illegal organ transplants tied to a private hospital in the Rangareddy district.

The accused—56-year-old Shankaran and 36-year-old N. Ramya—were detained by a CID special team on May 26 and transported to Hyderabad under transit remand. They appeared before a magistrate on Wednesday. With their arrest, the number of people taken into custody has climbed to 15.

According to CID Director-General Shikha Goel, the racket preyed on financially vulnerable individuals from Tamil Nadu, deceiving them with job offers before coercing them into selling their kidneys. The organs were then used in illegal transplants, with each surgery reportedly bringing in as much as ₹10 lakh for the network.

Investigators have linked the transplants to Alakananda Multi Speciality Hospital in Rangareddy. The CID’s probe, now spanning multiple states, is still widening as authorities work to map the full extent of the operation.
