Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed departments to begin implementing a job quota for transgender persons across key sectors. Orders were issued to ensure employment opportunities are created for transgender individuals in transport, information technology, private firms, the health sector, and endowments.
The directions were issued to top officials during a recent review, where the Chief Minister said employment access for transgender communities must be addressed systematically. Departments concerned have been told to initiate necessary steps without delay.
In a separate instruction, the Chief Minister directed senior officials to explore a proposal mandating a salary deduction ranging from 10% to 15% from government employees. The deducted amount would be credited directly into the bank accounts of the employees’ parents.
According to officials present at the meeting, the measure is being considered as a way to address welfare gaps among senior citizens, especially those dependent on working children. Revanth Reddy asked the administration to prepare a detailed report on the feasibility and implementation model.
Officials have been asked to submit reports on both proposals at the earliest. Internal consultations are currently underway within relevant departments.
