Hyderabad: In a tragic aftermath to the release of Telangana’s Intermediate First and Second Year results on Tuesday, six students across the state have died by suicide after failing or receiving low marks, highlighting the intense academic pressure on young learners.
In Mancherial district, a student named Ashwitha from Luxettipet, who appeared for her First Year exams, ended her life by hanging after being reportedly distressed over her low scores.
In Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, a student from Baswapuram village, studying MPC at a local private college, took his life in similar circumstances after failing the exams.
In Hyderabad’s Avanthinagar near Motinagar, another MPC First Year student, who studied at a college in Balkampet, died by suicide at his home while alone, unable to cope with the result.
A BIPC First Year student from YSR Colony in Tattiannaram, Nagole, also died by hanging after failing in one subject.
In Banjara Hills Road No. 2, Nishtha, daughter of Sumathi and Ramakrishna and a First Year student at Abhyasa Junior College, took her life after failing in Chemistry.
Another case was reported in Gundlapochampally of Medchal mandal, where a Second Year student enrolled at a corporate college died by suicide after scoring lower than expected.
These tragic incidents have cast a shadow of grief over the affected families and communities, prompting renewed calls for mental health support systems in educational institutions. Authorities and educators are being urged to sensitise students and parents about coping mechanisms and emotional wellbeing in the face of academic setbacks.
