Telangana Inter certificates to get waterproof, tamper-proof upgrade from next year

Hyderabad: The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) will roll out redesigned Intermediate pass certificates from next year with advanced security and durability features, including waterproof, tear-proof, and tamper-resistant material.

The new certificates will be printed on thicker paper—upgraded from 120 GSM to 180 GSM—and will include a colour photograph of the student, replacing the current black-and-white format. Each certificate will also carry a unique QR code linked to TG BIE’s digital database for instant verification of authenticity.

The decision follows reports of certificates being damaged during monsoon floods in districts like Mulugu and parts of Hyderabad. In previous instances, the Board had issued duplicates free of cost to affected students.

Senior TG BIE officials said the QR code would allow employers, educational institutions, and recruiting agencies to validate credentials directly by scanning the code with a mobile device. The code connects to the Board’s online records to confirm certificate authenticity.

In addition to physical upgrades, TG BIE is integrating credential data from the past six academic years into its website. The data, currently held by the Centre for Good Governance, will soon be accessible online, reducing the need for in-person verifications at Board offices.

Officials said the objective is to ensure long-term durability of the certificates and enable instant, secure verification for academic and employment purposes.
