Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday ordered the state government to announce the panchayat poll schedule by November 24. The court criticised the delay in conducting local body elections.
A division bench asked why the government failed to hold panchayat elections within six months of the term’s expiry, as required by law. The judges clarified they had objected only to the reservation issue for backward classes, not to the election process itself.
High Court insists on deadline for panchayat poll schedule
The State Election Commission told the court it planned to hold elections in all villages except those with unresolved reservation issues. But the bench strongly opposed this selective approach.
The court rejected the idea of phased elections and stressed the need for a unified process. It directed the Telangana government to release a full election schedule for all eligible villages by November 24.
