Hyderabad: Telangana has issued a heavy rain alert for Hyderabad following a three-day warning from the India Meteorological Department, prompting emergency mobilisation of civic and disaster response teams across the city.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who oversees Hyderabad affairs, held an emergency review on Wednesday with key officials including City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, Collector Dasari Harichandana, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath, Metro Water Works, and traffic department officers.
He directed immediate deployment of special personnel at 141 flood-prone waterlogging points and instructed the NDRF and SDRF to remain on standby. GHMC was told to issue alerts in all Musi catchment zones and other vulnerable areas.
Referring to last week’s rain-induced gridlocks, Prabhakar ordered that no repeat incidents occur and asked departments to coordinate ahead of peak rainfall hours.
As inflows surged into Hussain Sagar from Jeedimetla, Kukatpally, and Picket nalas, the lake’s level rose to 513.34 metres, nearing its full tank limit. Authorities began releasing water through sluice gates.
In view of possible traffic disruption, Cyberabad traffic police advised IT companies to implement work-from-home where feasible. Officials urged firms to reduce employee travel to avoid congestion.
