HYDERABAD: Telangana is set to receive some respite from the intense heatwave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms and light showers in parts of the state tonight and tomorrow.
The IMD indicated that temperatures across Telangana are expected to dip slightly over the next two days. However, humidity levels at night are expected to remain high. On Thursday, Nizamabad recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 45 degrees Celsius.
A red alert has been issued for districts in northern Telangana, with authorities advising residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Hyderabad has also been experiencing rising temperatures, with Boyinapalli recording 42.1 degrees Celsius and Begumbazar reaching 42 degrees Celsius.
Nighttime temperatures have been unusually high as well. In Hyderabad and Mancherial, temperatures crossed 26 degrees Celsius, while Jogulamba Gadwal and Wanaparthy districts recorded around 25 degrees Celsius. Across the state, nighttime temperatures are staying above 21 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Rajanna Sircilla districts. A yellow alert is in place for Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, and Yadadri districts, while an orange alert has been issued for other regions.
For the next two days, an orange alert will cover northern Telangana, while a yellow alert will be in place for southern districts. Starting Friday, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h, is expected across the state. The IMD further predicted that rains will continue over most parts of Telangana on Saturday and Sunday.
