Telangana government sanctions ₹344 crore interest-free loans to women SHGs

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has sanctioned ₹344 crore in interest-free loans to women’s self-help groups (SHGs), aiming to reinforce economic self-reliance among women across the state. Of the total allocation, ₹300 crore is meant for rural SHGs and ₹44 crore for urban collectives.

According to officials, the sanctioned funds will be deposited into SHG accounts through the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) between July 12 and 18. Ministers and MLAs will oversee constituency-wise cheque distribution across Telangana during this period.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said additional accident insurance and loan protection insurance cheques would also be provided to the women’s groups. He called the initiative part of a broader strategy to strengthen financial independence for women in both rural and urban areas.

Officials said the sanctioned assistance is expected to generate sustainable livelihood opportunities. Analysts noted that these funds could play a vital role in improving income security and resilience at the grassroots level.
