Telangana to become global hub for anime and manga talent

Hyderabad: Telangana is on track to become a global centre for anime and manga talent, as IACG Multimedia College in Hyderabad joins hands with Kyoto Seika University of Japan. This institution is the world’s first to offer specialised courses in Manga and Anime.

The two organisations will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday at T-Hub. IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu will attend the event. Rama Krishna Polina, Managing Director of IACG, and Shin Matsumura, Director of Kyoto Seika University’s Centre for Research on Contemporary African and Asian Cultures, will exchange the agreement.

Telangana–Japan MoU to open global pathways for anime and manga talent

At a press briefing held at FTCCI in Red Hills, IACG CEO Dr. Suresh Madiraju and Head of Academics Chaitanya CH highlighted the rising demand for creative talent. Japan’s anime industry is now worth over USD 25 billion. Each year, the country produces more than 1,000 manga titles and 300 anime seasons. However, it faces a severe talent crunch.

“With Hyderabad’s IT strength and artistic depth, Telangana is ideally placed to lead the next generation of global anime and manga talent,” said Dr. Madiraju. He added that the state’s creative ecosystem offers the right platform to train and export skilled professionals.

The partnership will also involve Young India Skill University, which will help Indian students secure overseas placements. In addition, organisations like JETRO and various partner studios will contribute to the initiative. Together, they aim to merge Japanese expertise with Indian execution to create a global footprint.

According to the organisers, this collaboration will not only generate jobs but also attract foreign investment. Ultimately, it will strengthen Telangana’s position as a key global player in the creative industry.
