Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday said the Telangana government will extend financial aid to every candidate qualifying for the Civil Services Mains and Interview under the Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhayahastam Scheme regardless of their number.
He made the announcement at Praja Bhavan while distributing cheques to 50 candidates selected for the UPSC Interview stage this year.
Civils Abhayahastam Scheme scheme sees rising participation
Congratulating the aspirants, Bhatti said the government launched the scheme to ensure no candidate is forced to drop out due to financial hardship. The scheme, implemented through Singareni Collieries Company Limited, provides ₹1 lakh to candidates qualifying for Mains and another ₹1 lakh to those reaching the Interview stage. Interview candidates also receive accommodation support in Delhi.
“The more candidates from Telangana succeed, the stronger our state becomes,” Bhatti said.
He noted that in the scheme’s first year, 140 candidates cleared Mains and 20 reached the Interview stage. Last year, seven of them were selected for Civil Services. This year, 202 have qualified for Mains and 50 for Interviews a sharp rise. He expressed hope that next year, the number of interview qualifiers would cross 100.

Government promises continued support, seeks candidate feedback
Bhatti said the government could have simply distributed cheques but chose to host an interactive session to understand the students’ experiences and improve the scheme.
He reminded candidates that the assistance comes from public funds, urging them to be socially responsible once they enter the Civil Services.
“Let your signature bring change to the lives of lakhs,” he told them.

He reiterated the government’s aim of helping bright, underprivileged candidates compete successfully in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
