Telangana flood rescues carried out in Medak and Sircilla

Hyderabad: Heavy rains triggered flood rescues in Medak and Rajanna Sircilla districts on Wednesday after swollen streams and overflowing reservoirs trapped villagers and cattle grazers. The Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities coordinated the operations.

In Medak’s Haveli Ghanpur mandal, rising waters stranded ten villagers at Rajapeta Tanda. Responding to a request from the district administration, Lt. Col. Nikhil led an Army unit of 30 personnel to the spot. The team rescued eight villagers swiftly and continued efforts to bring the remaining two to safety.

In Papannapet mandal, floodwaters from the Manjeera river submerged the Ellapur bridge. Police stopped vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and advised motorists to avoid the route until levels receded.

In Rajanna Sircilla, five cattle grazers who crossed near the Upper Manair project were cut off by floodwaters. The district Collector and Superintendent of Police monitored the situation as SDRF teams launched rescue operations. Drones dropped food packets to the stranded men while teams worked to evacuate them.

Administrations in both Medak and Sircilla renewed appeals for caution. They urged residents not to cross overflowing streams or attempt risky travel. Officials added that with rainfall continuing, rescue teams would remain stationed in vulnerable areas until conditions stabilise.
