Telangana EV push gains momentum with minister’s ride

Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar travelled to the Assembly in an electric vehicle on Monday to promote green mobility under the state’s EV policy.

The Telangana EV push gathered visibility as the minister, accompanied by Danam Nagender, used an electric vehicle to reach the Assembly. The move aimed to signal official commitment to eco-friendly transport.

He said the Telangana EV push had already delivered substantial benefits. The state waived 100% road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles. As a result, incentives worth nearly Rs.1,000 crore have been extended so far.

Moreover, the minister highlighted industry participation in the Telangana EV. He praised Tata Motors for offering discounts between 10% and 20% on electric vehicles for government employees. He stated that such steps would accelerate adoption.

EV push backed by incentives and infrastructure

He added that the Telangana EV push includes building charging stations and strengthening infrastructure across the state. Therefore, the government aimed to remove barriers to EV usage.

“In order to promote EV vehicles, the government is establishing charging stations and providing necessary infrastructure,” he said. He also thanked Tata Motors for responding to the government’s appeal.

In addition, he noted that several companies had already supported the Telangana EV. These include Mahindra Electric, Graviton Motors, Ola Electric, and Ather Energy.

He said their participation reflected growing industry confidence in the policy. At the same time, he urged more companies to join the initiative.

“On behalf of the government, I appeal to more companies to come forward and contribute to the promotion of EV vehicles,” he said.

The Telangana EV push continues to focus on reducing emissions and encouraging sustainable transport through incentives and partnerships.
