Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao on Friday criticised the Telangana Education Commission constituted by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging that it lacked qualified academicians and subject experts.
Responding to the Commission’s report, Harish Rao questioned the professional background of its members. He asked the Chief Minister to disclose how many among them had direct teaching experience at school, college or university levels. “Except for two professors from journalism and mass communication backgrounds, is there anyone in the committee with a PhD in education or experience in preparing school syllabi and core science subjects?” he asked.
He further objected to the appointment of a retired IAS officer as chairman. According to him, administrative service alone did not equip a person to undertake systemic education reforms. “Running offices is different from understanding child psychology and teaching methodologies,” he remarked.
Harish Rao seeks overhaul of Telangana Education Commission
Describing the Telangana Education Commission as an “experiment with unqualified people,” Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government was risking the future of students in the state. He therefore demanded that the panel be reconstituted with experienced educationists and subject specialists.
The Commission had been set up by the state government to review aspects of the education system and submit recommendations. However, Harish Rao maintained that meaningful reform required academic expertise and curriculum experience at multiple levels. He called on the government to clarify the selection criteria used in appointing members.
