Hyderabad: Telangana is reeling under a cold wave as temperatures plunged below 10°C in several districts over the weekend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a sharp dip in minimum temperatures. Consequently, they have issued an orange alert in 14 districts for Monday and Tuesday amid the Telangana cold wave.
From Saturday night to Sunday morning, Sirpur (U) in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad recorded the lowest temperature at 7.1°C. Kohir in Sangareddy followed with 7.5°C. Other minimum readings included 8.3°C in Bhimpur (Adilabad), 8.8°C in Moinabad (Rangareddy), and 9.4°C in Gandhari (Kamareddy) during this cold wave in Telangana.
The temperature may drop further in the next 48 hours
Medak’s Eldurthi and Nirmal’s Pembi each saw 9.6°C, while Momimpet in Vikarabad registered 9.8°C. Salora in Nizamabad hit 10°C. Nine more districts recorded temperatures between 10.2°C and 10.9°C, with most remaining areas under 13.2°C. The IMD has forecast a further drop of 2°C to 3°C below normal due to the ongoing cold wave.
The orange alert signifies a warning of severe cold conditions. Residents, especially vulnerable populations, have been advised to take precautions against the Telangana cold wave. The chill is expected to intensify over the next 48 hours, particularly in northern and southern Telangana districts.
