Cold wave grips Telangana as minimum temperatures drop below 10°C

Hyderabad: Telangana remained under the grip of a cold wave, with icy winds intensifying across northern districts. Minimum temperatures across the state continued to fall below 15°C, with 10 districts recording single-digit lows, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad.

Kohir and Sirpur-U report sharp temperature dips

Kohir in Sangareddy district recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 7.4°C, followed by Sirpur-U in Kumuram Bheem–Asifabad district at 8°C. These figures represent some of the sharpest temperature drops this season.

The IMD attributed the continuing chill to prevailing surface circulation. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 22. This system is expected to intensify and move northwestward over the next 48 hours, possibly developing into a depression by November 24.

Temperatures may fall further as system strengthens

As a result of this system, Telangana could see further declines in night temperatures over the next two days, with minimums expected to drop 2 to 3°C below normal. Daytime conditions are likely to remain cloudy, with mist or fog expected during morning hours.

Forecasts indicate maximum temperatures could hover around 29°C while minimums may remain around 15°C. Surface winds from the northeast are expected to blow at speeds between 4–6 km/h. On Thursday, the state recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of 29.4°C and 13.1°C respectively.
