Hyderabad: The Telangana cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will begin at 11 a.m. today at the State Secretariat. The meeting will review local body polls and the growing tension over GO 46. Because BC groups intensified their protests yesterday, the issue has gained political urgency.
Telangana cabinet meeting follows sharp objections from BC groups
At the Future Action Plan Conference, 100 BC organisations demanded the immediate withdrawal of GO 46. Furthermore, JAC Chairman R. Krishnaiah warned that any step against BC rights would lead to political consequences. He added that the agitation would continue from villages to Delhi until the government restored constitutional protection for BC reservations. Therefore, the cabinet plans to assess these demands in detail.
The State issued GO 46 on Saturday. The order set new reservation guidelines for SC, ST, BC communities and women in panchayat elections. Moreover, the framework follows the Supreme Court’s 50 percent ceiling. Under the new system, ward reservations will rely on the 2024 caste survey. As a result, officials hope to clear the path for panchayat polls, which have remained pending for nearly two years.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court will hear petitions on local body elections today. The ruling may influence the government’s next steps and could shift the election timeline.
After the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister will review the Telangana Raising 2047 agenda at the Integrated Command and Control Centre in the evening. Consequently, the government expects to outline long-term policy plans linked to development and governance.
