Hyderabad: The state government has initiated preparations to convene the Telangana Budget Session from February 26, with the annual financial statement for 2026-27 scheduled for presentation on February 28.

Telangana Budget Session to focus on 2026-27 annual budget

The government has indicated that it intends to begin the Telangana Budget Session on February 26. However, the Cabinet will review the proposal on February 23 and take a final decision.

Meanwhile, the Finance Department has completed preliminary groundwork and has begun finalising the annual budget proposals. Officials have carried out internal consultations and incorporated departmental inputs ahead of the presentation.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will present the annual budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the Assembly on February 28. The presentation will outline estimated receipts and expenditure, along with sector-wise allocations.

Sources indicated that allocations in the upcoming budget may exceed those of the previous year. The government is likely to prioritise welfare schemes and infrastructure development. However, final figures will become clear only after the budget document is tabled.

The government is also considering holding the session for 15 days to allow detailed discussion on the budget. During this period, members are expected to debate demands for grants and raise constituency-specific issues.

In addition, the ruling party plans to respond to issues raised by the opposition during the Telangana Budget Session. It also intends to introduce and seek passage of several key bills during the sittings.

Under legislative procedure, the budget must secure Assembly approval before expenditure can be incurred from the Consolidated Fund of the State. The House is expected to deliberate on the financial proposals in stages following the budget presentation.
