Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly passed a resolution urging the Centre to take steps to stop the ongoing war in West Asia.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu introduced the resolution in the House. Subsequently, members adopted it unanimously without opposition.
The resolution highlighted that the conflict between Iran and Israel had escalated and taken multiple forms. As a result, it said the situation had begun to destabilise the global economy.
It noted that crude oil, including petrol, diesel and gas, played a crucial role in economic stability. Therefore, disruptions in production and transport due to the war had affected global supply chains.
resolution flags global economic risks
The House observed that the United States and Israel carried out attacks on Iran and Lebanon. At the same time, Iran targeted U.S. defence bases in Gulf and Middle Eastern regions.
These attacks involved advanced weapons such as fighter bombers, ballistic missiles and drones. Consequently, large-scale destruction followed, leading to the deaths of nearly 4,000 civilians.
The resolution stated that while casualties remained confined to specific regions, economic damage spread globally. In particular, it warned that Asian countries faced serious risks, with India already experiencing the impact.
Members expressed concern that continued escalation could worsen the situation. Therefore, they cautioned that failure to halt the conflict could pose a broader global threat.
The House warned that prolonged conflict might even lead to a third world war. It said such a scenario would endanger global peace and human survival.
In view of these risks, the Assembly urged the Government of India to intervene. It called for diplomatic efforts to end the war and restore global peace.
