Telangana approves ex-gratia relief for Madinah bus victims

Hyderabad: The Telangana government approved ex-gratia relief of ₹3.07 crore for families of those killed and seriously injured in a bus accident near Madinah in Saudi Arabia last month. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy issued clear directions to release the assistance without delay.

According to an official note from the Chief Minister’s Office dated December 19, the government issued G.O. Rt. No. 125 through the Minority Welfare Department. The accident took place on November 17 at Al Mufrihat, between Mecca and Madinah. Pilgrims from Telangana were travelling in the bus at the time.

The government sanctioned ₹3,07,25,781 as ex-gratia relief for the families of the deceased and the seriously injured. In addition, the amount covers travel and support expenses. These included arrangements from Hyderabad to Saudi Arabia for a high-level delegation and two relatives of the victims.

Ex-gratia relief released from the CM Relief Fund

Following the Chief Minister’s directions, officials released the ex-gratia relief from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. They credited the amount to the bank account of the Executive Officer of the Telangana Hajj Committee at the Central Bank of India, Fathemaidhan branch, Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin said the government acted promptly to provide ex-gratia relief. He said the decision showed the state’s resolve to stand with citizens during difficult times.

Finally, the Chief Minister’s Office instructed the Revenue (CMRF) Department to complete follow-up action. Officials were asked to place the file before the Chief Minister for formal ratification.
