Hyderabad: The Telangana government initiated steps to form a Telangana activists committee on Thursday to oversee the fulfilment of promises made to statehood activists during the Congress election campaign.
The proposal emerged during a meeting between Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Professor Kodandaram and MLC Addanki Dayakar at the Minister’s Quarters in Hyderabad.
The discussion focused on establishing a Telangana activists committee that would help implement commitments made to Telangana movement activists during the electoral campaign.
Leaders reviewed how the proposed committee should function. They also discussed operational procedures and the criteria for selecting eligible members.
Participants said the Telangana activists committee must reflect broad representation. Therefore, they stressed the need to ensure opportunities for women and other groups.
Telangana activists committee to examine promises and demands
During the meeting, the leaders discussed how the Telangana activists committee would assess the demands raised by movement activists.
They also reviewed how qualified candidates could be identified district-wise. According to the discussion, this process would help ensure fair representation from across Telangana.
The leaders examined several factors related to the committee’s formation. These included eligibility guidelines and mechanisms to implement the promises made during the Congress campaign.
Furthermore, the discussion centred on how the committee could review activists’ demands in an organised manner. The aim was to align government action with the assurances given to Telangana movement participants.
At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed on the next steps for the Telangana activists committee.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Professor Kodandaram and MLC Addanki Dayakar decided to convene a meeting of the activists’ committee at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s office.
They also agreed to organise another follow-up meeting within the week to advance the process of forming the committee.
