Hyderabad: Former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Tuesday announced a massive public meeting of Backward Classes in Karimnagar on August 8, demanding the implementation of 42% reservations before conducting local body elections.
Yadav, addressing a meeting of BC leaders at Telangana Bhavan, said a delegation would soon meet the President of India to press for early assent to the reservation bills passed by the state legislature. He accused the Congress government of betraying BCs and using them for electoral gains.
He criticised the Congress for introducing the BC reservation bill without completing a transparent caste census. “They rushed it through the Assembly and are now misleading the public. It has no legal backing unless placed in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution,” he said.
Yadav denounced the Congress’ proposal for a protest in Delhi as political theatre, alleging it was meant to distract from their failure to act. He demanded that the Congress prove its intent by filling the remaining ministerial posts with BCs and implementing quotas in nominated positions.
The BRS MLA warned that any attempt to conduct local body elections without the 42% quota would face strong resistance. “We are ready to bring down this government if needed. The BCs are not a vote bank to be used and discarded,” he said.
