Speaker dismisses MLA disqualification petitions against Kadiyam, Danam

Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar dismissed MLA disqualification petitions filed against legislators Kadiyam Srihari and Danam Nagender.

The decision brought relief to both leaders.

The Speaker announced the verdict before the March 12 deadline set by the Supreme Court.

The court had directed him to complete the inquiry and take a final decision on the petitions.

Earlier, the Speaker had dismissed similar petitions against eight other legislators.

MLA disqualification issue in Telangana politics

With the latest order, ten legislators have now received relief in the MLA disqualification matter.

The issue has remained a major political topic in Telangana in recent months.

Leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi filed complaints with the Speaker alleging that several MLAs elected on the party’s ticket later joined the Congress party.

Those named included Kadiyam Srihari, Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkata Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Parigi Srinivas Reddy, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, M. Sanjay Kumar, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, T. Prakash Goud, Kale Yadaiah and Arikepudi Gandhi.

BRS leaders approached the High Court and later the Supreme Court over delays in the decision.

The Supreme Court then directed the Speaker to complete the inquiry within a fixed timeline.
