SP Balasubrahmanyam statue row heats up in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A fresh controversy has erupted over plans to install a statue of legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad. The proposed SP Balasubrahmanyam statue has met with opposition from Telangana activists, who argue that the venue should honor only those who supported the statehood movement.

Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has joined the protest against the SP Balasubrahmanyam statue. She pointed out that SPB had declined to sing the iconic “Jaya Jayahe Telangana” anthem during the agitation. For this reason, she believes his statue does not belong at Ravindra Bharathi, a key cultural symbol of Telangana.

Kavitha suggests a new location

Kavitha advised the organizers to choose a different site for the SP Balasubrahmanyam statue, one that respects public sentiment. She also reaffirmed her support for Telangana’s cultural pride and the protesters defending it.

The SP Balasubrahmanyam statue is set to be unveiled on December 15. However, the opposition has turned the event into a major debate on social and political platforms.
