Hyderabad: Ten women sustained injuries in a soybean procurement token stampede at the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society in Kubheer mandal on Saturday. Two women broke their legs, and eight others suffered minor wounds.
Villagers said the stampede began when farmers surged forward as officials started distributing procurement tokens. Farmers and volunteers carried the injured women to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
Crowd chaos at Kubheer PACS during token issue
Farmers began lining up early in the morning to sell their soybean produce. As the queue grew longer, the crowd became restless. When the tokens were issued, people pushed ahead, creating panic and confusion.
Angry farmers held the officials responsible for the mishap. They said the centre lacked barricades and safety measures. “Officials claimed tokens would help manage the process, but their poor planning caused the stampede,” a farmer said.
Officials from the agriculture department visited the site and began an inquiry. They promised to improve crowd control and ensure safe arrangements for future procurement drives.
