Hyderabad: Telangana could see the southwest monsoon arriving ahead of schedule this year, according to the India Meteorological Department. In its bulletin released Monday, the IMD hinted at early onset signs, pegging May 27 as the probable date for the monsoon to hit Kerala, well before the usual.
Based on its likely spread, scientists estimate it might cross into Telangana by the first week of June, possibly before the 5th.
That’s not all – more rain than usual is expected this season. IMD had already projected above-normal rainfall for the state during the upcoming monsoon window. Telangana typically sees around 734 mm of rain from June to September, but last year it clocked an unusually high 962.6 mm.
Meanwhile, the heat’s easing up a bit. IMD said daytime temperatures could drop by 2–3°C across the state over the next three days. Light rain is likely on Tuesday, with moderate spells forecast in a few districts on the 14th and 15th.
Still, some places continued to bake on Monday. Adilabad, Kothagudem, Hanumakonda, Khammam, and Medak all touched the 40°C mark.
