HYDERABAD: Rescue operations at the SLBC tunnel site in Nagarkurnool district entered the 50th day, as efforts continue to locate the bodies of six workers still missing after a tunnel collapse that occurred on 22 February around 8 a.m.
The incident took place during excavation work when the upper portion of the tunnel gave way, trapping eight workers deep inside. While some labourers managed to escape, others were caught beneath the debris.
So far, only two bodies have been recovered. Gurpreet Singh, a machine operator from Punjab, was found on the 16th day, and Manoj Kumar, an engineer from Uttar Pradesh, was recovered on the 25th day. Their remains were handed over to their respective families.
Despite the extended duration of the rescue efforts, the bodies of the remaining six workers have yet to be located. The operation remains challenging due to the depth and structural complexity of the collapse.
A total of 12 teams from various departments and agencies across Telangana are currently engaged in the mission. Officials continue to work around the clock in the hope of bringing closure to the families of the missing workers.
