KTR meets Deputy CM over Siricilla weavers crisis

Hyderabad: BRS working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao met Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday and raised the Siricilla weavers crisis, seeking immediate relief for textile workers. The Siricilla weavers crisis has intensified due to mounting financial and power-related burdens.

KTR submitted a representation urging the government to support weavers facing distress in the power loom sector. He asked the Deputy CM to remove electricity-related pressures affecting the industry.

Siricilla weavers crisis linked to mounting power dues

KTR highlighted that the Siricilla textile sector faces an electricity burden of nearly ₹38 crore. Moreover, he sought a waiver of pending back billing and surcharges. He also urged the government to restore continuous power subsidy benefits as provided earlier.

He asked officials to extend benefits to weavers without linking them to past dues. Therefore, he stressed the need for immediate financial relief to stabilise the sector.

KTR warned that the ongoing Siricilla weavers crisis could push workers towards distress, including the risk of suicides. Consequently, he urged the government to act quickly and provide financial support to affected families.

He explained the situation of Siricilla weavers in detail during the meeting. Meanwhile, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka assured a positive response from the government.

The Deputy CM said officials would examine the issue of electricity dues. He added that the government would take a decision that benefits workers.

The meeting, held beyond political lines, drew attention in political circles as both leaders discussed welfare measures for weavers.
