Hyderabad: India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj ripped through England’s batting on Saturday with a six-wicket burst that swung momentum in the second Test at Edgbaston. Stepping up in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj returned figures of 6 for 70 and drew widespread praise for spearheading the attack.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand took to X to hail Siraj’s spell, describing him as a source of pride for the Telangana Police. “DSP Siraj’s performance was outstanding. Wishing him continued success in leading India to more victories,” Anand posted.
England, who resumed at 77 for three overnight, folded for 407 despite centuries from Jamie Smith (184) and Harry Brook (158). Siraj, backed by debutant Akash Deep with 4 for 88, triggered a collapse that saw six English batters dismissed without scoring.
India held a 180-run first-innings lead and reached 64 for one by stumps in their second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell leg-before for 28 off Josh Tongue at 51, while K.L. Rahul remained unbeaten on 28 alongside Karun Nair on seven. The visitors stretched their advantage to 244 runs heading into day four.
